If It Has a Screen the Lorax Can Be Seen refers to a trend on TikTok in which the 2012 animated movie The Lorax is shown playing on unconventional devices with screens, such as calculators and pregnancy tests, under the catchphrase, "If it has a screen the Lorax can be seen." The trend is set to the song "Let It Grow" from the same movie and began in late April 2023, continuing through early May. The memes are similar to the It Runs Doom trend.
Origin
On April 28th, 2023, TikToker[1] @acergur posted a video captioned, "If it has a screen, the lorax can be seen 💪💪" set to a distorted version of "Let It Grow" from The Lorax showing the film playing on six devices at once, including two Nintendo Switches, garnering over 846,000 views in three days (shown below). This is the earliest known video to use the phrase.
Spread
The trend spread over the following days as TikTokers recorded The Lorax, often the "Let It Grow" scene, playing on unconventional devices with screens. On April 30th, TikToker[2] @hexmari posted a video playing The Lorax on a calculator, garnering over 1.9 million views in a day (shown below, left). On the same day, TikToker[3] @user20776880 posted a video playing the movie on a digital thermometer, garnering over 3.7 million views in a day (shown below, right).
On the same day, TikToker[4] @hyperrrvrr posted a video where it appears as if The Lorax is playing on a Gameboy Color, garnering over 210,000 views in under 24 hours (shown below).
