If I Roll a Twelve…, also known as Angry Birds Dice Roll refers to a series of memes based on a clip from a trailer for the canceled 2017 mobile video game Angry Birds: Dice in which Red makes a dice roll, with the dice showing 12 as they fly towards the viewer. Started by a viral GIF caption posted in August 2022, the format achieved virality on Twitter in June 2023.

Origin

On January 13th. 2017, a trailer for the mobile video game Angry Birds Dice was released, gaining over 58,000 views on YouTube[1] in six years. In one scene of the trailer, the character Red makes a roll with two dice, with the dice each showing six as they fly towards the viewer, ultimately landing on 12 (shown below, 0:53 mark).

On August 14th, 2022, an unknown Redditor posted the earliest found meme based on the scene to the /r/whenthe[2] subreddit, captioning it, "If I roll a twelve, you fucking die" (shown below).

Spread

On August 18th, 2022, Redditor Accomplishe_Soft_23 posted a Source Filmmaker version of the GIF recreated with Team Fortress 2 characters to the /r/SFM[3] subreddit, where it received over 450 upvotes in 10 months (shown below).

On October 19th, 2022, Twitter[4] account @ShitpostGate posted the original GIF caption, with the post gaining over 170 retweets and 2,000 likes in eight months.

On June 5th, 2023, iFunny[5] user iCvvvy posted a GIF caption based on the Team Fortress 2 version of the meme that received over 140 smiles in nine days.

On June 8th, 2023, Twitter[6] user @Lowdeathlover tweeted a GIF caption in which one of the rolled dice is covered by an overlayed number five, subverting the meme. The post (shown below, left) received over 320 retweets and 2,400 likes in six days. Later that day, Twitter[7] user @TheSillySnail reused the edited GIF, captioning it "If I roll a twelve, Minecraft is a fun game outside of creative mode." The post (shown below, right) garnered over 3,600 retweets and 33,600 likes in six days.

In the following days, the GIF caption format achieved virality on Twitter, with some users also altering the GIF for dice to show unrealistic results.
