iDubbbz-Conner Genre of Man, also referred to Mullet & Stache Style and Fake Australian describes a type of popular men's style the key element of which is a combination of a mullet and a moustache. The style first achieved popularity in the 1980s but has been experiencing a comeback among older Gen Z and younger Millennial men in the early 2020s, with users on social media recognizing modern adopters of the style, including YouTubers iDubbbz and Kurtis Conner, as a specific "genre of man" who look similar to one another.
Origin
On June 17th, 2023, X / Twitter[1] user @custardloaf posted photographs of YouTubers Kurtis Conner and iDubbbz, both wearing a curly mullet and stache, having visible tattoos on their bodies and smiling in a similar way, commenting, "so so sick of seeing this genre of man." The post (shown below) garnered over 7,600 reposts and 72,300 likes in four months.
Spread
The post saw viral spread online as users shared screenshots of it and quoted it on X. On June 18th, 2023, X[2] user @beautifulgirly_ quoted the post, gaining over 1,000 reposts and 8,700 likes in four months (shown below, left). On June 21st, 2023, iDubbbz quoted[3] it with a photograph of himself together with Conner, writing, "We are NOT a genre. We are real pople with real feelings." The post (shown below, right) received over 6,100 reposts and 132,000 likes on X in four months. On June 23rd, iFunny[4] user ImmaBarbieGirl made a repost that received over 7,200 smiles in four months.
The observation received furthers support in October 2023, when on October 9th X[5] user @schizarella posted a four-panel image consisting of photographs of Kurtis Conner, fitness influencer Max Taylor, Deputy Communications Director at U.S. Department of the Interior Tyler Cherry and another unidentified man, commenting, "what is this genre of man called?" (shown below, left). The post gained over 4,200 reposts and 14,700 likes in three days, with multiple quote posts also going viral: for example, on October 9th, 2023, X[6] user @MadyGComics quipped, "Queer Al Yankovic," with the post garnering over 360 reposts and 4,300 likes (shown below, right).
