About
IDK How Many X I Got Left in Me is a phrasal meme format used to express a high degree of exhaustion with facing life's misfortunes and to signal declining mental health. Spawned by a viral 2019 tweet, the snowclone achieved virality on Twitter in the summer of 2022 with Whisper image macros. You Ran Out of X is also a subformat of the meme.
Origin
On September 10th, 2019, Twitter[1] user @Zineeeb00 tweeted, "IDK how many more "it is what it is" I got left in me man," humorously hinting at that they may be approaching their limit. The tweet gained over 19,000 retweets and 42,300 likes in three years (shown below).
Spread
The phrasal format did not see development until early 2022. On January 24th, 2022, Twitter[2] user @FeelingFrisky posted a meme that gained over 300 retweets and 2,400 likes in nine months and was widely circulated online in the following days. On January 30th, Twitter[3] user @spaceeong wrote, "idk how many more 'f--k it we ball's i got left in me man." The tweet garnered over 10,000 retweets and 51,600 likes in nine months (shown below, right).
On May 25th, 2022, Sigma Male Twitter[4] gimmick account @asimbawe tweeted the first Whisper macro using the format, captioning the image of actor Mads Mikkelsen with the original version of the meme. The post received over 10,000 retweets and 50,700 likes in four months (shown below). The image then received viral spread through reposts.[5]
Starting in July 2022, @asimbawe and other users posted more Whisper macros and other memes using the phrasal template, with some examples going viral.[6][7]
You Ran Out of X
On July 8th, 2022, gimmick Sigma Male Twitter[8] account @Schiz0Pilled posted a clip of Blade Runner 2049 character Officer K dying paired with a warning message notifying a user that they are "running out of 'it is what it is.'" The post received over 225,000 views, 3,000 retweets and 15,300 likes (shown below).
The post spawned a meme format in which It's Over Error Messages notify a user about them "having ran out of X."
