I'd Sell You To Satan For One Corn Chip refers to a painting of a bird by Matt Adrian captioned "I'd sell you to Satan for one corn chip," originally published in the 2012 comedy artbook The Mincing Mockingbird Guide To Troubled Birds, which features similar pieces of art showing Troubled Birds with captions that paint them as aggressive and angry. The image spread online over the following years and became the subject of image macros, typically used as a reaction to show hatred.
Origin
On March 8th, 2012, Matt Adrian of The Mincing Mockingbird,[1] a husband-wife artist duo that sells original products, books and art pieces mostly based around birds, published The Mincing Mockingbird Guide To Troubled Birds, a comedy art book that includes original paintings of troubled birds with aggressive captions attached. One of these images shows a bird with the caption "I'd sell you to satan for one corn chip" (shown below). On January 10th, 2013, Tumblr[2] user mercerism shared a number of images from the book including the corn chip bird, gaining over 105,000 notes and helping spread the image.
On March 12th, 2015, Tumblr[3] user stephanievex posted "when someone says, 'Oh, shut up, you know you love me!':" along with the image, joking that they truly hate the person (shown below). The post went viral, gaining over a million notes in six months. A screenshot of the post, as well as recreations of it with the same caption, spread across social media throughout 2015, including popular posts on iFunny[4] and Facebook.[5]

The image slowly started to see use in new image macros and memes over the following year. For example, on November 15th, 2015, an Imgur[6] user uploaded a screenshot of a text conversation using the corn chip bird to tell someone they hate their pun (shown below, left). On December 19th, 2017, Instagram[7] user thedancersresource posted a new version of the meme, gaining over 400 likes in four years (shown below, right).
On January 23rd, 2019, Twitter[8] user @cphrseok posted a tweet using the image in reference to K-pop group BTS and their music video for "Run," gaining over 2,800 likes and 1,400 retweets in roughly two years (shown below). A screenshot of the meme was reposted to Instagram[9] by @bts.bangtonboys, gaining over 7,000 likes in a similar span of time.
On June 20th, 2019, Tumblr[14] page surfacage posted a redraw of the meme replacing the bird with an Articuno from Pokemon, gaining over 7,000 notes in two years (shown below). It was shared by Instagram[15] page pokemythx in June 2021, gaining over 11,000 likes in four months.
On November 4th, 2020, Instagram[10][11] pages tiktok.trashposting and rheepz posted a meme showing a YouTube[12] thumbnail reading "Dog Thrilled to See Owners At Shelter But They're There To Adopt Different Dog," gaining over 2,600 likes and 6,900 likes respectively in a year (shown below). Instagram[13] page duppley shared it on November 20th, gaining over 70,000 likes in a comparable span of time.
