I Wonder What My Hamster Will Type is an exploitable two-panel image series featuring Snapchat photos of a hamster running across a keyboard to type various humorous passages into MS Paint on a computer screen.

Origin

The earliest known posting of the Snapchat images was on the Garlic Bread Memes Facebook^[4] page on February 10th, 2016, featuring the message "Like Garlic Bread Memes on Facebook" (shown below).

Spread

On February 18th, Instagram user @beigecardigan^[1] posted the image with the expression "Free me from this prison that is my life" written in the document (shown below). Over the next two years, the post gathered upwards of 49,700 likes.

On March 1st, the @cabbagecatmemes^[3] Instagram feed posted an edit in which the hamster types "communism will prevail" (shown below). Within two years, the post gained over 20,500 likes. That day, a variation quoting a passage from The Communist Manifesto was submitted to 4chan's /pol/ board (shown below, right).^[5]

On March 13th, the "Post Ironic Memechartcore II: But Then WAS Graph" Facebook^[2] page posted an anti-meme variation of the image (shown below, left). On December 25th, the image was submitted with the text "thank you for feeding me and keeping me safe. I love you" to /r/WholesomeMemes^[7] (shown below, right).

On February 12th, 2017, Redditor lord_darovit submitted a Tragedy of Darth Plageuis edit of the image to /r/PrequelMemes^[8] (shown below, left). On March 7th, Redditor TeamCobra submitted a "/r/dankmemes mods are fags" edit of the image to /r/dankmemes,^[6] where it received more than 1,800 points (98% upvoted) and 30 comments prior to being archived (shown below, right).
