I Was Nine and Taking Care of You refers to a viral TikTok audio of Fiona from the U.S. TV series Shameless yelling at her father that she was nine years old when she had to start taking care of him and the rest of the family. The clip comes from season seven episode 12 and was uploaded to TikTok in October 2022, becoming the viral subject of lip dubs in 2023 where users showcase someone or something they had to take care of at a young age, including mental health struggles and other traumatic life events.

On December 18th, 2016, season seven episode 12 of Shameless aired. The episode features a scene where Fiona yells at her dad Frank, an alcoholic and drug addict, about her mom Monica being absent their whole life, reminding him that she took care of him and the rest of the family at nine years old (shown below).

On October 20th, 2022, TikToker^[1] @aquafilm_ posted a Shameless compilation video of clips featuring Fiona that begins with the scene, garnering over 3.7 million views in eight months (shown below).

The video's original sound went viral over the following months, particularly throughout 2023, inspiring over 86,300 uses in eight months. For example, on January 6th, 2023, TikToker^[2] @nikisha_story posted a lip dub to the audio using it to explain how she pulled three all nighters to clean her house, garnering over 5.6 million views in five months (shown below).

On March 12th, TikToker^[3] @user091267428 posted a video using the audio that gained over 8.4 million views in three months (shown below, left). On June 22nd, TikToker^[4] @blackcrayolaa posted a video using the sound to joke about taking care of Talking Tom, garnering over 15.6 million views in four days (shown below, left).
