The phrase has also been modified as the phrasal template I Want to Fuck an X Unprotected in which the "X" is replaced with other terms people have sexual desires for.

Origin

On October 8th, 2022, X^[1] / Twitter user @iamzheanna posted a Thinkers on a Train meme recaptioned with the text, "I want to fuck an elf unprotected" (authorship unconfirmed). The post (shown below) received over 3,300 reposts and 28,000 likes in two years.

Spread

The image saw viral spread through reposts in the following months. For example, on November 10th, 2022, Redditor sapien142 reposted the image to the /r/196^[2] subreddit, where it garnered over 2,000 upvotes in two years.

On June 15th, 2023, Tumblr^[3] user yoku-yukihime posted the earliest found edit of the image, a Touhou meme, that garnered over 3,000 likes in one year (shown below).

On November 17th, 2023, Tumblr^[4] user jinglebellrockstars recaptioned the image, "I want to fuck a orc unprotected," with the edit (shown below) gaining over 31,000 likes in reblogs in 10 months.

On December 29th, 2023, X^[5] user @necromeowncy posted a transparent template for the meme, which was followed by an influx of thought-bubbling memes based on it in late December 2023 (example^[6] shown below).

More memes based on the catchphrase and its variations were circulated online in 2024.
