About

I Wanna Ride, I Wanna Ride refers to a TikTok trend where female TikTokers dance while seated to a sped-up version of Puerto Rican rapper Joseline Hernandez's song "Vegas." These videos are accompanied by superimposed text that generally follows the phrasal template, "When he X," inserting a desirable male trait. The trend was started in early March 2022 and gained traction later in the month.

Origin

On March 11th, 2022, TikToker[1] bby.glosss posted a video of her at work at Walgreens. In the video, she's sitting down while performing a subtle dance, moving her hips and curling her index finger while she moves her hand around her face and lips. Over the course of 19 days, the TikTok earned roughly 4.1 million plays and 712,900 likes (shown below, left).

On March 17th, the TikTok[2] page .rockstarflimz posted an edit using bby.glosss' Walgreens video. They used a sped-up version of the song "Vegas" by Joseline Hernandez[3] as the audio. Over the course of 13 days, the video received roughly 2.1 million plays and 208,800 likes (shown below, center).

On March 18th, TikToker[4] bby.glosss used the audio from the aforementioned TikTok in her own video, performing her dance alongside it and earning roughly 5 million plays and 580,600 likes in twelve days (shown below, right).

Spread

On March 21st, 2022, TikToker[5] kay.2.raww used the "I Wanna Ride" audio in her own video wherein she's sitting down on an athletic field and mimicking bby.glosss' dance. The TikTok had text overlay reading, "POV: he's the fastest boy on the track team." Over the course of nine days, the video received roughly 816,500 plays and 182,900 likes (shown below).

The aforementioned TikTok consequently started a trend associated with the audio in which female TikTokers wrote captions over their videos that followed a phrasal template of, "When he X," inserting a desirable trait in men that romantically interests them. On March 23rd, 2022, multiple TikTokers fell into the trope. For instance, TikToker[6] thairyvamp posted a video stating, "when he's 100% obsessed with me," earning roughly 1.8 million plays and 417,100 likes in one week (shown below, left). On March 25th, TikToker[7] dinlocolatina stated, "when he has a big nose," in a video that earned roughly 3.9 million plays and 770,000 likes in five days (shown below, right).

As the trend became oversaturated on the platform within its first week, TikTokers started posting reactionary content and parodies, mostly by male TikTokers making fun of the trend. For instance, on March 24th, TikToker[8] faridasharted posted a version that showed their kid performing the dance, referencing the children's TV show Paw Patrol. Over the course of six days, the video earned roughly 1.5 million plays and 336,100 likes (shown below, left). On March 28th, TikToker[9] anthonyedwards.jr posted a video that had a text overlay reading, "if she made one of these for you, you winning bro," earning roughly 2.6 million plays and 528,900 likes in two days (shown below, right).
