About
I Understand It Now is a catchphrase said by TikTok influencer and trick-shot content creator Lethal Shooter that achieved virality on TikTok in late 2024. The phrase is often used as a spam comment and is also accompanied by humorous posts about being able to aim correctly, following similar usage to the "lock in" internet slang.
Origin
On June 6th, 2024, TikTok[1] influencer Chris "Lethal Shooter" Matthews (@lethalshooter), who creates content featuring various trick shots, posted a video showing off his skills with a basketball, adding point guards to the rim (seen below). As he missed one of his initials shots, Matthews said, "I understand it now," and proceeded to shoot the ball without hitting the point guards. The video amassed over 17 million plays and 2.5 million likes in five months.
Spread
Lethal Shooter's catchphrase gained virality in early November 2024 as TikTokers started to add the quote in comedic content about flirting, playing games or other daily life situations in which you need to focus.
For example, on November 5th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @qu2ncy posted a video pretending to shoot a ball, writing, "When you miss ur first shot on fine shyt but you understand it now." The video amassed over 4 million plays and 891,000 likes in a day.
That same day on November 5th, TikTok[3] user @huncho619 then posted a comedic skit video of him playing Dragon Ball: Sparking! Zero, adding the phrase "I understand it now" over the video (seen below), which amassed more than 50,000 plays and 9,800 likes in a day.
