"I Tip My Hat to You. One Legend to Another" is a memorable quote uttered by the character Rattlesnake Jake in the 2011 computer-animated film Rango. Online, a two-panel image macro has been the subject of object labeling memes about showing respect to another.

Origin

On March 4th, 2011, the film Rango was released in theaters. In the film, the character Rattlesnake Jake says to the character Rango (voiced by Bill Nighy and Johnny Depp, respectively) "I tip my hat to you, one legend to another" (shown below).[1]



On March 5th, 2019, Redditor [2] posted the earliest known object-labeled image macro version of the scene, labeling referencing another Redditors frequent posting of Rango-related memes (shown below).

Several months later, on June 14th, Redditor[3] zody0 posted a variation of the meme about actor Keanu Reeves and his popularity in memes. The post received more than 8,000 points (95% upvoted) and 40 comments (shown below, left).
