About
I Support Jenna's Side is a phrase that phonetically sounds like I Support Genocide. In early 2023, compilation videos surfaced on TikTok and Twitter in which pranksters and trolls joined the TikTok Lives of female influencers and asked them in chat to say, "I support Jenna's side," phrasing their message like a favor to support their imagined friend Jenna who was in an imagined argument or legal battle. The women either realized their mistake immediately or didn't. "I Support Jenna's Side" is similar to other soundalike meme phrases like Ligma, Joe Mama and Nick Gurr, among others.
Origin
On March 24th, 2023, TikToker[1] @rjames2996 (f.k.a. @rcallahan2996) posted a video that was a compilation of multiple TikTok Lives he'd joined of female influencers on the app. In every video clip, he typed into chat, "hey my friend Jenna is in an argument can you say 'I support Jenna's side.'" In every clip, the female TikToker would say the phrase and either realize that she phonetically said, "I support genocide," or not realize. Over the course of four days, the video received roughly 1 million plays and 204,600 likes (shown below).
Later on March 24th, 2023, two more "I Support Jenna's Side" videos were uploaded by TikToker[2][3] @rjames2996 with one receiving roughly 321,500 plays and 54,100 likes in four days (shown below, left) and the other receiving roughly 51,700 plays and 3,000 likes in four days (shown below, right).
Spread
On TikTok, reactions to the @rjames2996's "I Support Jenna's Side" videos started to surface, such as a stitch posted by TikToker[4] @susanbennettspaypig2 on March 26th, 2023, that alleged he'd been tricked into saying a racial slur once on Live, likely the "Nick Gurr" trick. @susanbennettspaypig2's stitch gained roughly 22,900 plays and 3,300 likes in two days (shown below).
On March 27th, 2023, Twitter[5] user SSDERANGEMENTSS tweeted @rjames2996's third "I Support Jenna's Side" TikTok,[3] gaining roughly 10,800 views and over 720 likes in less than a day (shown below). The TikToks were also posted to the subreddits /r/shitposting[6] and /r/WatchPeopleDieInside[7] on March 27th.
