I See Trees of Breen refers to a viral video of TikToker @blackolivesigmasupreme13 singing a portion of "What a Wonderful World" by Louis Armstrong, but when he sings "trees of green," it sounds like "trees of breen." The video was uploaded in early August 2024 and went viral over the following weeks as the subject of lip dubs and 21st-century humor montage memes, many of which feature the caption, "I see trees of breen."
Origin
On August 4th, 2024, TikToker[1] @blackolivesigmasupreme13, known for videos in which he sings songs requested by commenters, posted a video where he sings a portion of "What a Wonderful World," garnering over 3.7 million views in three weeks. Several highly voted commenters pointed out that it sounds like the TikToker is saying "trees of breen" when he sings the song.
On August 7th, TikToker[2] @blackolivesigmasupreme13 then posted a video singing the entirety of "What a Wonderful World," garnering over 4.1 million views in roughly the same span of time.
Spread
The original sounds for each video were popularized on TikTok over the following days, largely as a source for 21st-century humor meme compilations. For example, on August 8th, 2024, TikToker[3] @donpollostudios posted a compilation video featuring the caption, "I see trees of breen," which garnered over 2.3 million views in three weeks (shown below).
On August 12th, TikToker[4] @durgeon3 posted a video of a man dancing in fast-motion to the song under the same caption, garnering over 240,000 views in 15 days (shown below).
