Origin
On January 11th, 2026, a TikToker who goes by the display name "Amy" posted a comment under an unknown video sharing an edit of a cat in makeup looking down on someone, writing, "I prefer my ice… crushed." It is unconfirmed which video the comment was left on. Purportedly, it was left on a video of an ICE agent assaulting someone in Minneapolis.
On January 25th, X[1] user @nrgdyt_ posted a screenshot of the comment under a post by @umbrimea criticizing TikTok comments about ICE-related videos. The comment gained over 9,600 likes in two weeks.

The I Prefer My Ice Crushed comment started to spread over the following days, inspiring other memes using the cat image alongside similar captions.
For example, on January 30th, 2026, X[2] user @vespertwinks posted the cat meme, writing, "I prefer my Nicki… Deported," referring to rapper Nicki Minaj, garnering over 13,000 likes in six days.
On February 1st, TikToker[3] @pillow840 posted a comedy skit that references the meme, in which someone asks for crushed ice in their drink, then poses like the cat in the meme, garnering over 1.7 million views in four days.
On February 2nd, 2026, X[4] user @FreeRosedark posted the cat meme, writing, "I prefer my tung tung tung…. sahur," garnering over 21,000 likes in three days.
On February 3rd, TikToker[5] @ajyaps69 posted a video criticizing the commenter, calling the comment "obnoxious and annoying," joking that it made them want to turn MAGA and overall believing it to be insensitive, garnering over 2.3 million views in two days.
On February 4th, 2026, TikToker[6] @karoltheactor79 posted a video where he recreates brainrot edits with only himself, starting by showing himself in makeup that resembles the cat meme over the caption "I prefer my ice crushed," garnering over 360,000 views in a day.
