I… Love You Guys So Much refers to a scene from The Office where Michael Scott (played by Steve Carell) tells Jim and Pam that he loves them after he finds out they're dating. A captioned screenshot of the scene became popularized as an exploitable in January 2021 where the faces of Jim and Pam are replaced with things that the poster likes as an object-labeling meme format.

Origin

On September 27th, 2007, season four episode two of The Office aired on television. In the episode, Michael Scott finds out that Jim and Pam are dating. He grabs their hands and tells them that he loves them so much (shown below).

On an unknown date in 2020, a captioned screenshot of the scene was added to Imgflip.^[1] On January 10th, 2021, Twitter^[2] user @FILMOGRAPHHY posted a meme using the image where Pam's head is replaced with the movie poster for Hereditary and Jim's is replaced with the poster for Midsommar, garnering around 30 likes in a year (shown below). This is the earliest known meme using the format.

Spread

The format became further popularized that month, inspiring numerous viral memes over the following years. On January 11th, 2021, Twitter^[3] user @newtspatronus posted a version of the meme about The Umbrella Academy, garnering over 14,000 likes in a year (shown below, left). On January 15th, Twitter^[4] user @itsjustanx posted a version of the meme about WandaVision, garnering over 11,000 likes and 2,700 retweets in a year (shown below, right). On the same date, a new version of the meme was posted by Tumblr^[5] user spidaerman, garnering over 30,000 notes in the same span of time.

On March 14th, Facebook^[6] page Anime Feels posted a version of the meme replacing the heads of Pam and Jim with Attack on Titan and Jujutsu Kaisen posters, garnering over 81,000 reactions and 20,000 shares in a year (shown below).

The format saw continued use throughout 2022. On June 17th, 2022, Facebook^[7] page Wolfhards posted a version of the meme referencing Stranger Things, garnering over 49,000 reactions and 16,000 shares in two months.
