I Love My Puter, continued All My Friends Are Inside It or I Hate My Puter, is a series of image macros of a small gray cat (or kitten) sitting on a bed in front of a laptop captioned either "I love my puter" or "I hate my puter," "puter" being shorthand for "computer." The photo of the cat was posted to Reddit in December 2019 and the captions were added in the following years, inspiring redraws and memes using the exploitable image and memes where the caption is applied to similar images.

Origin

On December 25th, 2019, Redditor Kleinbluekatznposted a photograph to /r/ntbdbiwdfta^[1] titled, "Would die for this smol baby," showing a small gray kitten sitting on a bed in front of an open laptop. The post gained over 7,300 upvotes in three years (shown below).

The photo gained viral spread over the following year. It was reposted to Twitter^[2] on August 5th, 2020 (now deleted), which was shared in a BuzzFeed^[3] article on August 10th. It was then reposted to Tumblr^[4] in December 2020, gaining over 32,000 notes. On December 28th, Twitter^[5] user @isawken posted the image, writing, "clocking in at my dumb little job and sending my stupid little emails," gaining over 264,000 likes and 35,000 retweets in two years (shown below, left). On May 18th, 2021, Tumblr^[6] user mold-child posted a version of the image captioned, "I love my puter all my friends are inside it," gaining over 64,000 notes in a year (shown below, right).

Spread

The meme began to inspire new variations that month. On May 21st, 2021, Tumblr^[7] user mimeandmemes posted a redraw of the meme replacing the cat with Player from Carmen Sandiego, gaining around 260 notes in a year. On July 14th, voice-over artist Luke Correia posted a video to Twitter^[8] and YouTube^[9] voicing over a version of the meme captioned, "I hate my puter all my enemies are inside it," gaining over 1,300 likes on the former and 681,000 views n the latter in a year (shown below). On July 22nd, voiceover artist Gianni Matragrano posted a voiceover of the "love my puter" meme to Twitter^[10] and YouTube,^[11] gaining over 4,600 likes on the former and 650,000 views on the latter in a year (shown below, right).

On October 29th, Tumblr^[12] user jinogasux-fr posted a recreation of the meme using a screenshot of an isopod on a laptop taken in Animal Crossing: New Horizons, gaining over 29,500 notes in nine months (shown below).

On November 30th, Redditor GiveMeMoreBlueberrys posted a meme using the caption to /r/196^[13] featuring a humanoid cat at a computer, gaining over 600 upvotes in eight months. On December 12th, Twitter^[14] user @eyesickl posted a similar meme featuring Neco-Arc, gaining over 49,000 likes and 7,200 retweets in seven months (shown below).

On April 5th, 2022, Tumblr^[15] user girlblocker posted a version of the "hate my puter" meme about hating emails, gaining over 8,300 notes in two months (shown below).
