I Like Your Pride Shirt refers to a cartoon in which a woman compliments a man wearing a Dark Side of the Moon shirt on his "pride shirt." The format gained popularity as a template for memes on Instagram and Facebook in late 2019, with memes replacing the art on the shirt with something else unrelated to LGBTQ+ pride.

Origin

On October 13th, 2019, cartoonist Made by Jimbob posted a cartoon in which a woman compliments a man wearing a shirt with the cover art of the album The Dark Side of the Moon by Pink Floyd on it, saying, "I like your pride shirt." The cartoon (shown below) gained over 5,100 likes on Instagram^[1] and 330 reactions and 80 shares on Facebook^[2] in two years.

On October 16th, 2019, Redditor^[3] pixxelzombie reposted the image to /r/funny subreddit, where it gained over 15,200 upvotes in two years.

The first meme to use the cartoon as a template is unknown. On November 25th, 2019, Instagram^[4] user c10movement posted the first known meme based on the cartoon, replacing the image on the shirt with a Ford logo and an image of a red Ford Mustang car, with the caption altered to "I like your gay pride shirt." The post received over 130 likes in two years (shown below, left). On November 29th, 2019, Instagram^[5] user deathrapco_ posted a similar meme, placing a logo of Honda motorcycles on the shirt (shown below, right). The post gained over 1,000 likes in two years.

Spread

Starting in December 2019, the cartoon gained moderate popularity as a template for memes, with users replacing the image on the shirt with logos of sports teams, music bands, video games, etc. For example, on January 6th, 2020, Instagram^[6] user fuckhospin posted a meme in which the Supreme logo was placed on the shirt, with the post gaining nearly 8,000 likes (shown below, left). On February 13th, 2020, Facebook^[7] meme page Football Autista Memes posted a meme in which the man was given a Manchester United football club jersey, with the post gaining over 920 reactions and 220 shares (shown below, right).

The format maintained moderate presence online in 2020 and 2021, particularly on Facebook and Instagram.
