I Know A Spot refers to a snowclone that mocks people who claim to know a special place for a date or romantic activity, but the place turns out to be disappointing. The format of the snowclone generally reads, "(Boys/girls) will be like 'I know a spot' then take you to X."
Origin
On June 22nd, 2020, Twitter user @imanekwan[1] posted, "guys be like 'i know a spot' and then take u to burnaby mountain," which is a mountain in British Columbia. The tweet gained over 440 retweets and 2,800 likes (shown below).
Spread
The tweet inspired others to quote-tweet is and add their own variations. For example, user @Hafsahhxo[2] tweeted, "Guys be like 'I know a spot' and then takes his boys instead," (shown below, left). The joke began spreading more widely in the following days as others posted variations that gained tens of thousands of retweets. For example, Twitter user @nussyrox[3] tweeted, "men be like 'i know a spot' & then take you to rock bottom," gaining over 83,000 retweets and 140,000 likes (shown below, right).
As the meme developed, others began taking more surreal approaches to the format. For example, user @assignedcowgal[4] tweeted "academics be like 'i know a spot' and then take you to a liminal space," gaining over 1,500 retweets and 11,000 likes (shown below, left). User @decafdana[5] tweeted, "curators are like 'i know a spot' and then take you to the intersection of art and technology," gaining over 430 retweets and 3,900 likes (shown below, right).
