I Knew This Was Happening, also known as Yeah I Knew This Was Happening, refers to a "predator-catching" viral video in which a man named Edward, wearing a blue Armani Exchange (AX) shirt, white pants and sunglasses on his head, is allegedly caught trying to meet an underage person in a grocery store. As he approaches the cameraman, he confidently says, "Oh, yeah, I knew this was happening … Yeah, I know this! I know this is happening. Thank you!" The Surrey Creep Catchers originally took the video in the mid-2010s, spreading on video platforms like YouTube and Facebook. He was dubbed the 4'11" Pred because of his short stature. In late 2024 and early 2025, the I Knew This Was Happening meme spread en masse on TikTok via "99.99% Accuracy" recreations and speedruns, some of which combined it with other dialogues from viral memes like Johnnie Walker in the War Room With Tristan Tate and Jeff Bliss saying, "Instead of handing them a friggin' packet, yo."

Origin

The original video was taken by the Surrey Creep Catchers, a Canadian vigilante predator-catching group, that posted to Facebook and YouTube in 2016.^[1] In August 2016, the Surrey Creep Catcher channels on both platforms were taken down.^[2][3]

During that timeframe, a video of a man named Edward being confronted by the Surrey Creep Catchers was shared. In the video, Edward is confronted in a grocery store and he says, "Oh, yeah, I knew this was happening … Yeah, I know this! I know this is happening. Thank you!" The video was notably reposted on March 30th, 2024, by TikToker^[4] @creepcatchercanada, gaining over 1 million likes in 10 months (shown below). The video's original upload date on Facebook and YouTube is currently unknown.

Spread

On September 25th, 2021, YouTuber^[5] Mike Fox shared a reaction video to the I Knew This Was Happening video, gaining over 193,700 views in four years (shown below).

After TikToker^[4] @creepcatchercanada's viral repost in March 2024, the I Knew This Was Happening video gained memetic spread on the platform. For instance, on August 20th, TikToker^[6] @igreenscreenthings shared a greenscreen template of the video, gaining over 18,200 likes in five months.

Others on the app used the template, like TikToker^[7] @youngboywannab on August 30th, 2024, who put the predator in a school hallway setting, adding a POV caption about catching a friend walking around with a freshman. The video received over 51,700 likes in five months (shown below).

In January 2025, the I Knew This Was Happening video was combined with other dialogues from then-trending viral videos.

For example, on January 18th, TikToker^[8] @reidosu posted a video in which he combined the transcripts of I Knew This Was Happening, Johnnie Walker, Friggin' Packet Yo, Senator, I'm Singaporean and other Luke Belmar clips. The video received over 225,700 likes in 10 days (shown below).

On January 27th, 2025, TikToker^[9] @sniff_maxwell_jr posted a "97.53% Accuracy" recreation of the I Knew This Was Happening video in Fortnite, receiving over 60,100 likes in a day (shown below).
