I Have Two Sides is an image macro series featuring a headshot photograph of a person split in two, or halves of photographs of two different people or characters. The images have been used as a type of anti-meme designed to be purposely unfunny.

Origin

The origin of the meme is unknown. However, on September 12th, 2013, iFunny [1] user 173late_2013 shared a post about two sides of one's personality featuring the text from many of the posts (shown below).

On December 26th, 2018 Twitter [4] user @chamington1 posted the earliest available version of the meme: a photograph of a young man, split in two, with the text "I have two sides: the left side, the right side." Three days later, Redditor[5] chamington shared the image on /r/comedyheaven, receiving more than 14,000 points (98% upvoted) and 110 comments in less than two years (shown below).

Spread

Over the next year, the meme grew in popularity. In 2019, Instagram user @nauseatingnut published a photograph of a man in a hat with the header from the aforementioned post. The photograph of the man is split in the middle with the text "the left side" and "the right side." The original post and account has since been deleted, but a Redditor, [3] who has since deleted their account, posted the image on the /r/im14andthisisdeep subreddit on February 15th, 2019. The post received more than 1,850 points (92% upvoted) in less than one year (shown below, left).

On April 13th, 2019, Instagram [6] user @benis.barker posted a variation inspired by director Sam Raimi's Spider-Man films. The post received more than 3,300 likes in a little over one year (shown below, center).

On September 7th, iFunny[2] user Missile posted a version of the "I Have Two Sides" meme. The image features a photograph of President Bill Clinton with the caption "I have two sides: horny horny" (shown below, right).

Twisted Fucking Cycle Path is a misspelling of "twisted fucking psychopath" that originates from a tweet posted in September 2018. Following the viral spread of the screenshots of the tweet, the misspelling gained popularity in ironic memes, used both independently and in conjunction with formats such as I Have Two Sides.
