About
I Have A Boring But Important Question refers to a copypasta inspired by actress Mindy Kaling, who took to Twitter asking for advice on what brand of kitchenware she should purchase. In response, kitchenware brand Le Creuset responded by saying it would give her the items she was looking for for free. This inspired others on Twitter to sarcastically try to get free things by copying Kaling's tweet.
Origin
On May 4th, 2020, Mindy Kaling tweeted, "I have a boring but important question. I need a new whole collection of pots and pans (like everything; a wok, griddle etc). Is there a brand that sells them all in a pack or box? I want this to be super easy! Thank you!" In response, kitchenware brand Le Creuset replied saying it would give Kaling the items for free. While Kaling's tweet has since been deleted, the exchange was screenshot by Twitter user @frankiegreek[1] (shown below).
After a user pointed out that Kaling did not need the kitchenware for free, Kaling donated $1,000 to Harmony House, a charitable organization in India.[4]
Spread
As other Twitter users noticed the exchange, they commented about their annoyance at celebrities being able to get things they could otherwise afford for free simply because they asked for it.[2][3] Others began copying Kaling's tweet, inserting various things they wanted in a sarcastic hope at getting free goods. For example, user @E_AlexJung[5] posted the copypasta hoping for clothing, gaining over 1,700 likes (shown below, left). User @eatinginmycar[6] posted the copypasta asking for money, gaining over 200 likes (shown below, right).
