Origin

On June 5th, 2019, the Twitter[1] account of @BleacherReport posted an infographic that showed veteran NBA player Vince Carter in an Atlanta Hawks uniform with the quote, "I got one more in me," written in all caps. The quote was in regard to Carter returning to the league for his 22nd season and it was stated on ESPN's The Jump.[2] @BleacherReport's tweet received roughly 7,900 likes in four years (shown below).

Sometime in late August 2019, Twitter users started to post the image as a meme, however, the exact tweets are unknown. Regardless, other Twitter users at the time allege to the timeframe's virality, such as in a tweet sent by Twitter[3] user @AndreaR305 on September 11th, 2019, that read, "You after posting the 625th ‘I got one more in me’ meme" (shown below).

Spread

Despite early usage in 2019, the meme didn't become highly prominent until 2022. For instance, on April 18th, 2022, Twitter[4] user @papyfaye1 tweeted about the player Jay Crowder getting zero rebounds, earning roughly 2,300 likes in 11 months (shown below, left). On December 5th, 2022, Twitter[5] user @ShoyaIshidaStan used the image to make fun of Amber Heard, earning roughly 9,300 likes in three months (shown below, right).

Going into 2023, the image was used in more viral tweets. For instance, on February 21st, 2023, Twitter[6] user @jotmanjotman tweeted a reply that made fun of 15 Signs You're a 'Sigma' Male creator, YouTuber alpha m., when he posted a series of videos about cheating on his partner. Over the course of one month, the tweet received roughly 23,700 likes (shown below).
