About

"I've Got 99 Problems But a Bitch Ain't One" is a popular catchphrase taken from Jay-Z's song "99 Problems" which has been parodied several times online and used in various image macros.

Origin

In 2004, Jay-Z released "The Black Album" which featured the song "99 Problems", taking the title and chorus from Ice-T's song "99 Problems" released in his 1993 album Home Invasion:

It is also interesting to note that the chorus lyrics in Jay-Z's "99 Problems" differs slightly from Ice-T's version:

"If you're havin' girl problems, I feel bad for you son/ I got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one."

- Jay-Z, "99 Problems" (2004)

"So if you're havin' girl problems, I'll be there for you son/ Got 99 problems, but a bitch ain't one"

- Ice-T, "99 Problems" (1993)

Spread

While the song was well-known, the phrase received a huge boom in search volume circa January due to the website 99 Problems and because of Jay-Z performing a version of the song in which he replaces the word "bitch" with "Bush".

Macro images started to pop up late summer of 2009, while the song peaked in September. This is probably due to Jay-Z's involvement in a benefit concert to help the families of those lost on 9/11.
