About
I Get Guys, I Get Girls, I Get X or I Pull Men, I Pull Women refers to a trend on TikTok where users open and close their hands as if they're mouths under the captions, "I get guys" and "I get girls," followed by showing themselves under the phrasal template caption, "I get X," "X" being something funny that they "get." The trend began in mid-September 2022 and is set to the song "Luna, amore e no."
Origin
On September 14th, 2022, TikToker[1] @kkrxsty posted a video where she moves her hand like a mouth under the caption "I pull men," then cuts to her doing the same under the caption, "I pull women," then cuts to her face under the caption, "I pulled a door that said push," garnering over 4.5 million views in two weeks (shown below). This is the earliest known video performing the trend.
The most popular caption soon became "I get" rather than "I pull." For example, on September 17th, TikToker[2] @confusedchristabelle posted a video using the "I get" captions followed by a caption over her face reading, "I get dizzy if I stand up too fast," garnering over 1.7 million views in nine days (shown below).
Spread
The trend spread across TikTok over the following weeks. On September 21st, 2022, TikToker[3] @oscar.wilsonnn posted a video following the trend, garnering over 3.3 million views in five days (shown below, left). On September 22nd, TikToker[4] @avani posted a video following the trend, garnering over 5.3 million views in four days (shown below, right). On September 23rd, Dexerto[5] reported on the trend.
