On July 18th, 2023, Twitter user @lighterpolpos^[1] uploaded a drawing of a person bragging about a male companion being their "girlfriend, wife, baby girl" etc. They captioned the post, "I love whatever this is," gaining over 18,000 retweets and 84,000 likes in two days (shown below).

Spread

The tweet inspired artists and media fans on Twitter to edit the template with people and characters who they believed fit the dynamic over the following days.

For example, on July 19th, 2023, Twitter user @Redundantz^[2] posted a version showing Zelda and Link from The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom, gaining over 1,000 retweets and 5,000 likes in one day (shown below, left). The same day, user @meowmitri^[3] posted an example using Leon from Resident Evil 4, gaining over 260 retweets and 840 likes in a similar timeframe (shown below, right).
