About

I Don't Care For X refers to a line said by Lucille Bluth, portrayed by Jessica Walter, on the TV show Arrested Development in the pilot episode. This scene, Lucille with a frowning expression and a martini in her hand, is used in memes as an exploitable image macro and phrasal template via caption changing where the meme creator shows disinterest towards something by replacing the last word of the quote.

Origin

On November 2nd, 2003, the Arrested Development pilot episode aired, with the joke itself being featured near the halfway point. While in a confrontation with Michael Bluth, played by Jason Batemen, Lucille, played by Jessica Walter, proclaims that she loves all of her children equally before the camera cuts to an earlier point in the day where, while eating with Buster, Lucille declares that she doesn't care for Gob, her eldest son, for seemingly no reason. This scene was uploaded to YouTube on April 21st, 2021, by the channel[1] StefanFromFrance, acquiring over 15,000 views in seven months (shown below).

Spread

The meme began to experience real traction as a template after the post on the /r/memeeconomy subreddit by Redditor[2] WillyWonkaTheFearful on October 20th, 2020. The post contained the original screencaps for context, an example using rock climbing references and the blank template for others to use (shown below).

On January 15th, 2021, the Facebook[3] page Lord of the Rings Memes uploaded a version of the meme template that uses Elrond and Faramir from The Lord Of The Rings, gaining 40 likes in 10 months (shown below).
