About

I Can't Believe I Was In Love With a Chick or You Mean You're Not A Clumsy Soldier Femboy Twink is a redraw format and series of exploitable image macro memes based on a screenshot from Disney's Mulan of the character Li Shang walking away from Mulan after revealing herself to be a woman, captioned, "I can't believe I was in love with a chick." The meme was originally posted to Tumblr in March 2012 and garnered viral spread over the following years, largely as a redraw format in which the characters are replaced.

Origin

On March 10th, 2012, Tumblr user somanypetals, known at the time of origin as twelve-jammy-badgers, posted a 138-panel comic titled Am I Gay?: A Journey of Self Discovery with Shang.[1] which garnered over 240,000 notes in thirteen years. The original comic is a comedic recaptioning of Disney's Mulan, in which Li Shang questions his sexuality and attraction to Mulan throughout the duration of the movie. A shortened version of the comic then went on to gain further viral spread, featuring the twelve panels in which Li Shang finds out that Mulan is a woman. In the comic, upon finding out, he says, "I can't believe I was in love with chick," then walks away to find a gay bar.
