"I can be your angle….or yuor devil" is an intentionally misspelled phrase used in combination with two-pane images highlighting two opposite sides of a fictional character or individual that are typically posted on Reddit, Twitter and other forums dedicated to cringe humor.

Origin

On July 14th, 2013, Cringe Channel[1] user Ironcringe posted a two-pane image featuring mirror selfies of a man with CGI-rendered wings of a devil and an angel, along with the misspelled caption reading "I can be your devil or angle" (shown below).

Spread

On August 12th, 2013, Redditor Litra submitted the same image in a /r/cringe post[2] titled "Both Sides," garnering 1,449 points (84% upvoted) prior to being archived and over 100,000 views on Imgur. Between November 2013 and April 2014, the image was re-submitted to Reddit's /r/cringepics[3][4] and r/funny[5] on at least three occasions. On November 29, 2013, Something Awful forum user Fathis Munk[10] posted the same image in a thread titled "PYF Awkward, Ugly, and Gross: My Little Signature Fedora Edition." On January 31st, 2016, Twitter user @Snakelord87[7] tweeted a side-by-side image of YouTuber Egoraptor with the phrase "I can be your angle….or yuor devil," accruing over 20,000 likes and retweets within three months (shown below).

On February 18th, 2016, Redditor dd1zzle[6] submitted a screen captured image of @Snakelord87's tweet to the /r/gamegrumps subreddit, where it garnered over 4,000 points (92% upvoted) and more than 600,000 views on Imgur. On April 16th, Tumblr user Jonsbeard[8] posted a derivative instance featuring images of YouTuber JonTron, racking up over 1,300 notes in a month and a half. On May 27th, Tumblr user Confectioneryvixen[9] posted an Overwatch-themed rendition featuring the phrase, accumulating over 4,000 notes within the first week.
