About
I Became Very Nonchalant refers to a catchphrase and viral sound started on TikTok in July 2021. The sound was originally used by hustle culture TikTokers who were then later parodied by ironic users in lip-dub skits. The catchphrase spread to other platforms like Instagram and Twitter in September 2021.
Origin
In July 2021, TikToker @hypemanbrandonn uploaded a video to his TikTok page where he is sitting in his parked car, talking into the camera and saying, "I ain't even finna cap. I became very nonchalant. But this is what y'all wanted right? To me not give a fuck? Congratulations. Now, I really don't give a fuck." The video (reupload shown below) is no longer on TikTok due to his account being suspended. However, @hypemanbrandonn posted the video to his Instagram[1] page on August 6th as a Reel. When posted to Instagram, the video received roughly 83,000 likes over the course of roughly one month.
The first TikTok[2] to use hypemanbrandonn's sound in a lip-dub skit was posted on July 23rd, 2021, by TikToker @officiall.pk1.[3] The video (shown below) gained roughly 26,500 views and 1,400 likes over the course of two months.
Spread
The sound continued to spread on TikTok over the following months as additional users parodied it. The first TikTok using the sound to gain viral attention was posted on July 26th, 2021, by TikToker[4] @bigkuza. The video (shown below) received roughly 1 million views and 124,000 likes over the course of roughly two months.
A few other TikTokers used the sound in July and August 2021, like TikToker[5] @wheelchair.capalot, who posted a video on July 31st, 2021. However, at the end of August and early September 2021, the sound and catchphrase received more meme attention on the platform, mostly through parodies of @bigkuza's TikTok.[4]
On August 29th, 2021, TikToker[6] @carringtonxx posted a video that began a trend on his page of saying the catchphrase over multiple videos. This TikTok (shown below, left) received roughly 162,000 views and 24,000 likes over the course of two weeks. At the end of the video, @carringtonxx adds the phrase, "Fuck is you talking 'bout (FIYTB)," to the catchphrase. On September 3rd, 2021, TikToker[7] @larry_jackson5 also uploaded a video mocking @bigkuza. The TikTok (shown below, right) received roughly 6 million views and 1 million likes over the course of roughly two weeks.
These two TikTokers inspired more duets and reactions to Big Kuza and the catchphrase gained traction on the platform. For instance, TikToker[8] @iamabeetheartist posted a Duet with @larry_jackson5 that received roughly 50,000 likes. The catchphrase spread to Twitter[9] in September 2021, as well as to Instagram.[10]
