I Am Who I Am or "Put Your Penis Away, No" refers to a viral scene from season two of the HBO Max series Euphoria where Cal Jacobs (played by Eric Dane) is asked to put his penis away twice, answering "no" the first time and "I am who I am" the second time. The scene was uploaded to TikTok at the end of January 2022 and its original sound went viral in lip-dub skits, inspiring over 69,000 uses in roughly a week.

Origin

On January 23rd, 2022, season two episode three of Euphoria aired on HBO Max. In the episode, the character Cal Jacobs (Eric Dane) goes on a bender, comes home drunk from a bar and pees on the foyer. He then proceeds to reveal his trauma to his wife and kids and come out as gay with his penis still out, telling his wife about the various men he slept with while she was pregnant.^[2] A clip from the scene was uploaded to TikTok^[1] on January 31st by user @arianebreault where Cal is asked to put his penis away twice, saying "no" the first time and "I am who I am" the second (shown below). The clip gained over 12 million views in just over a week.

The video's original sound became popularized over the course of early February 2022, inspiring over 69,000 videos in under two weeks. For example, on February 1st, TikToker^[3] @libertymoth posted a lip-dub skit to the sound where she asks a girl to stop showing off her pierced nipples, gaining over 4.2 million views in a week (shown below).

Some of the videos see TikTokers lip dub the scene with a "prosthetic penis" hanging out of their pants, using random objects as the penis. For example, on February 3rd, TikTokers^[4]^[5] @friedveggiedumpling and @elishevai6 posted videos using a hairless cat and hamster respectively, gaining over 1.9 million and 2.2 million views in a week (shown below, left and right).

On February 4th, TikToker^[6] @croweisha posted a video acting like Cal in the scene, gaining over 7 million views in six days (shown below). On February 6th, Pitt News^[7] named the trend the best meme from Euphoria.

On February 8th, TikToker^[8] @dontlookimembarrassed posted a video using the sound showcasing his dog using a cooked spaghetti noodle as a prosthetic leg, gaining over 3.3 million views in two days (shown below).
