About

"I Am That Storm" / *Cue Needle Drop* refers to a series of memes parodying a clip from the 2025 anime adaptation of the Devil May Cry video game series in which the character Vergil's dialogue references a lyric from the song "Bury the Light," a prominent meme known as I Am The Storm That Is Approaching among the game's community. The forced reference inspired jokes and parodies in which other fictional characters made awkwardly worded references to popular songs from their franchises.

Origin

On April 3rd, 2025, the first season of the anime-inspired adaptation of the Devil May Cry action-adventure video game franchise premiered on Netflix. The last episode of the season ends with the character Vergil saying a menacing line of dialogue that contains a reference to the song "Bury the Light" from Devil May Cry 5, which became a popular meme in the game's community in the early 2020s.

Immediately after Vergil says, "I am that storm," a cover version of the song starts playing as the credits roll.

On April 5th, 2025, Netflix's official X[1] account @NetflixGeeked tweeted the scene, captioning the post, "Vergil: I am that storm / *cue "Bury the Light" needle drop*. The post (shown below) received over 4.6 million views, 3,300 reposts and 15,000 likes in four days.

In the following days, the post became a subject of parodies on X / Twitter as users replaced Vergil with various characters, captioning the posts with jokes about the characters awkwardly referencing songs from their franchises.

For example, on April 7th, 2025, X[3] user @briskthe2ndguy posted a Metal Gear Solid / 'Invisible' edit that gained over 450 reposts and 4,500 likes in two days (shown below).

Later that day, X[4] user @JacobTjv posted a Nier: Automata version of the meme that replaced Vergil with 2B and gained over 870 reposts and 9,000 likes in two days (shown below).

More versions of the meme appeared in early April 2025.
