I Am Rectangular, continued I Feel No Hole, refers to a song by Canadian TikToker Sean Stephens (@seanstephens.music) who went viral in July 2023 for a TikTok he posted of himself singing the song in Times Square with green hair. The video was reposted to Twitter and elsewhere, inspiring memes and reactions, many of which centered on him looking AI-generated with Midjourney while others focused on the song's strange lyrics, specifically his use of the word "hole" which is also an explicit slang term.

Origin

On July 14th, 2023, TikToker[1] @seanstephens.music posted a video in which he was wearing a shirt and tie, sporting green hair and standing in New York City's Times Square. The video's text overlay read "I came 1000km to New York City to do this.." and he announced that he was going to sing his new song called "I Am Rectangular." Over the course of five days, the video gained roughly 644,900 plays and 6,900 likes (shown below). On the same day, he also posted the video as a Reel to his Instagram.[2]

Spread

On July 17th, 2023, Twitter[3] user @_pem_pem posted a screen recording of @seanstephens.music's Reel, gaining roughly 8,600 likes in two days. The tweet was then quote retweeted by others, such as Twitter[4] user @neoaky on July 17th, who wrote, "some of you are rectangular the way you feel no hole," gaining over 470 likes in two days (shown below). Also on July 17th, Twitter[5] user @images_ai posted a QRT that read, "he's got the midjourney lighting, that's crazy," in reference to the AI art system Midjourney, gaining over 300 likes.

On July 18th, 2023, Twitter[6] user @LolOverruled tweeted @seanstephens.music's TikTok,[1] captioning it, "Canadians are experimenting with sound in a way you can’t even fathom," gaining roughly 20,800 likes in one day (shown below).

The song and its lyrics started to gain memes going into July 2023, such as a reply posted by Twitter[7] user @kid_riolu on July 18th, 2023, that showed a person with a rectangular head labeled "the songwriter," gaining roughly 1,000 likes in a day. Other videos like Duets surfaced on TikTok[8] about the song.
