About

I Am Not Answering This Fucking DM is a catchphrase used to caption a screenshot of a Discord profile picture, inferring that the message should not be opened because of what their PFP infers about them. In the meme, the PFP is most often a character inserted atop an LGBTQ+ flag such as a trans flag or lesbian flag. The meme was predominantly spread by LGBTQ+ users on X, formerly Twitter, starting in late 2023.

On August 20th, 2023, X[1] user @Yeartine posted a screenshot of a Discord user's PFP who sent them a DM. Spread

To poke fun at X[1] user @Yeartine, many changed their PFPs to similar Kwebbelkop PFPs and replied with "why not?" captured in a reply shared by X[4] user @Spookaly on August 20th, 2023, gaining over 6,900 likes in 19 days (shown below).

On September 4th, 2023, X[5] user @ZoelleCook posted a screenshot of a similar PFP with YouTuber HeelvsBabyface (known for his then-recent rant about the Starfield Pronoun Options Controversy) on top of a lesbian pride flag, gaining roughly 56,400 likes in four days (shown below, left). Later on September 4th, X[6] user @ZestyLemonss posted an iteration referencing the This Is Black Diamond meme, gaining roughly 43,800 likes in four days (shown below, right).

Continuing into September 2023, reposts of the X posts were shared on Instagram,[7][8] going viral on the variant platform as well.
