I Am NOT A CoComelon Parent, continued, You Goin' Sit Down and Watch Law & Order SVU, is an exploitable meme format and phrasal template in which a caption describes how the poster will not put on CoComelon for their child but will have them watch Law & Order SVU. In memes, Law & Order is typically replaced by another show, movie or observable event often inappropriate for children via recaptions. The meme first began spreading on Instagram and Facebook in July 2022 and became increasingly popularized throughout 2023, often through an exploitable image of a Facebook status text post with a pink-and-blue background.

Origin

On February 15th, 2022, Instagram^[1] user therealhazely posted an image of black text on a white background reading, "I am NOT a CoComelon parent. You goin sit down and watch Law and Order SVU," garnering over 1,800 likes in a year. This is the earliest known version of the phrase, but may not be the first. On July 12th, Instagram^[2] user tarinshitup posted the same caption over a blue gradient background, garnering over 600 likes in the same span of time (shown below, left).

The earliest known edit of the meme was posted by Facebook^[8] user Adult Problems, replacing Law & Order with Grey's Anatomy, garnering over 4,400 shares and 1,500 reactions in a year (shown below, right). It is unclear who first posted the version of the meme with the pink background, which later became the most prevalent in future iterations of the meme.

Spread

The meme did not become a more widespread subject of edits until mid-2023. On July 15th, 2023, X^[3] user @possiblythefall posted an edit with the pink background, replacing Law & Order SVU with The Bear, garnering over 59,000 likes in four months (shown below).

The meme continued to spread over the course of 2023. On July 17th, X^[4] user and author John Green posted a version that replaces the show with "me pressure JnJ into being ethical," garnering over 6,500 likes in four months (shown below, left). On July 19th, Instagram^[5] user the_maymays_reloaded posted a version referencing the Saw movies, garnering over 36,400 likes in four months (shown below, right).

On July 20th, the official Jeopardy! X^[6] account posted a version of the meme about watching the game show, garnering over 6,000 likes in four months (shown below).

On September 3rd, 2023, Instagram^[7] user baseballscenefromtwilight posted an image with a version of the meme referencing Twilight that was seemingly taken on a movie theater screen, garnering over 159,000 likes in two months (shown below).
