On September 16th, 2022, Noah Kahan released the song "Northern Attitude" on his album Stick Season.^[1] About a year later, on November 9th, 2023, he rereleased the song with Hozier as a single, uploading it to YouTube^[2] on the same day and receiving over 8 million views in two years. At the song's 2:18-minute mark (shown below), Hozier lets out an extended, "Yeah!"

A few days before, on November 6th, Kahan posted a TikTok^[3] to his account @noahkahanmusic, which included a teaser snippet of the collab song ahead of its release. The snippet started with Hozier's yell. The TikTok received over 463,300 likes in two years (shown below).

On November 7th, 2023, TikToker^[4] @kennyreads posted a video with the snippet as her sound, showing herself hearing the song and levitating with the caption, "Me absolutely levitating after hearing Hozier's 'hey' in the new 'Northern Attitude' collab," gaining over 173,000 likes in two years (shown below).

Also on November 7th, TikToker^[5] 2amberbamber135 posted a video with the same sound, captioning it, "There are no words for the emotion this screams awakens in my soul," gaining over 174,300 likes in two years (shown below). It is currently unknown which TikToker shared their video first on the day.

For instance, on November 12th, 2023, TikToker^[6] @bibble4.life posted a video with the sound, showing The Lorax Leaving, captioned, "How Hozier's scream in 'Northern Attitude' makes me feel," gaining over 353,400 likes in two years (shown below).

Memes about Hozier's Yell on "Northern Attitude" resurfaced en masse in March 2025, when a series of videos showing scenic locations and settings with the caption, "A moment that felt like Hozier's yell," was shared on the app.
