Hoyeon Jung, Squid Game Star, Reveals In a Recent Interview to Vogue Korea, continued That Lately She’s Been Obsessed with X refers to a phrasal template popularized on Twitter in October 2021 where people claim Squid Game actor Hoyeon Jung is obsessed with various albums, films or other things followed by a fictional quote about her current obsession.
Origin
On October 4th, 2021, Twitter[1] user @dontrmrartpop posted an image of Squid Game star Hoyeon Jung next to an image of the album cover for Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett's Love For Sale, captioned, "Hoyeon Jung, Squid Game star, reveals in a recent interview to Vogue Korea that lately she’s been obsessed with 'Love For Sale' Tony Bennett and Lady Gaga’s new album. 'I just think it’s something the world needs right now, whenever I listen to it my mood changes for the better'" (shown below). The tweet gained over 1,400 likes and 260 retweets in a week.
Spread
The format spread over the following days as people edited the phrase and used new images next to Jung's to change the context. Many changed the album that Jung is allegedly obsessed with, including Twitter[2][3] users @turboalmighty and @sineaed on October 7th, gaining over 27,600 likes and 5,100 retweets and 44,600 likes and 7,500 retweets respectively in four days (shown below, left and right).
Screenshots of the tweets became popular on Instagram. For example, on October 7th, Twitter[4] user @yungskrrt posted a version of the meme claiming Jung is obsessed with nothing and hates music, gaining over 1,500 likes in four days (shown below). The post was shared by Instagram[5] page sonny5ideup on October 9th, gaining over 71,000 likes in two days.
On October 9th, Twitter[6] user and streamer @realranton, aka Ranton, posted a version of the meme claiming Jung talked with "Korean Coomer" magazine and is obsessed with Ranton because he fell off, gaining over 1,600 likes in two days (shown below, left). On October 10th, Twitter[7] user @KHAMCHANH posted a version of the meme claiming Jung is obsessed with communist dictator Mao Zedong, gaining over 11,000 likes and 1,400 retweets in a day (shown below, right).
