How X Would Say X, also known as How X Would Say This or How Things In My Room Would Say This, is a TikTok phrasal template from late 2021 that was repopularized in August 2022. The trend features people matching photos or people to audio that says the dialogue in different ways. The trend began as "How X Would Say STFU" and has since utilized audios from various Say Something TikTok Emoji Acting Challenge.

Origin

On September 27th, 2021, TikToker^[1] @phoebebez posted a video titled "How Squid Games characters would say STFU." The post received over 20,000 views and over 5,000 likes in 11 months (shown below, left). This quickly inspired several creators to record their own spin on the trend, at the time, the most viewed of which was a video by TIkToker^[2] @tupactypebeatt on November 16th, 2021, called "How my teachers would say stfu." The video went viral, gathering over 11.4 million plays and over 2.2 million likes in nine months (shown below, right).

The audio also inspired the "How Things In My Room Would Say This" trend, the oldest of which is an October 3rd, 2021, video from TikToker^[3] @rribbet. Their video gathered over 2.1 million plays and over 600,000 likes in nearly nine months (seen below)

On July 29th, 2022, TikToker^[4] @alpha.pookie posted a Say Something TikTok Acting Challenge video, saying the word twerk in relation to the following emojis "😄🤣💂‍♀️🤨😡." The video gathered over 5.1 million plays and over 850,000 likes in three weeks (see below, left). The video also inspired other creators to use the audio for their own "How X Would Say Twerk" videos, the earliest of which was a video by TikToker^[5] @joonvernonmoment on August 1st, showing how different members of the K-Pop group BTS. The video gathered over 90,000 plays and 26,000 likes in two weeks (see below, right).

On August 2nd, 2022, TikToker^[6] @GregIsThic posted a video participating in the Say Something TikTok Acting Challenge, showing how he thought different emojis would call him gay. The video contained a text overlay that read, "😡👱‍♀️👨🏻‍🦳💅🐶," and showed @GregIsThic saying "You're Gay. You're Gay. You're One Of Them Queers. You're Girly Pop. [BARK]" The video gathered over 600,000 views and over 120,000 likes in nine days (shown below, left). Also on August 2nd, TikToker^[7] @bahislay posted a video using the sound from the aforementioned @GregIsThic video, using it to speculate about how K-Pop band Tomorrow X Tomorrow would deliver the lines. The video gathered over 800,000 views and over 35,000 likes in nine days (shown below, right).
