About
"How To Attract A Man" Parodies refers to a series of TikToks in which a woman's voice offers instructions on how to dress to attract men, and after every instruction, the poster will adjust their outfit to do the exact opposite of the instruction. The trend emerged in early 2023, spreading over the following months.
Origin
On January 28th, 2023, TikToker @veronicashavie[1] posted the original audio, offering instructions about how to dress and present in order to "attract a man." Her video was sarcastic, as she made a point of defying every instruction she gave in the audio. The video gained over 154,000 likes in seven months (shown below).
Spread
Though the initial video was posted in January 2023, it took months for the audio to begin going viral on TikTok. Viral videos using the sound began appearing around late July 2023. For example, on July 28th, 2023, user @rxneexx posted a video with the sound that gained over 2.3 million likes on the platform in 10 days (shown below, left). On July 30th, user @saracarstens did the same, gaining over 2.4 million likes in nine days (shown below, right).
Over the following week, several of TikTok's most prominent influencers began participating in the trend. For example, on August 4th, TikToker @leaelui posted a video that gained over 493,000 likes in four days (shown below, left). On August 7th, user @mmmjoemele posted a humorous inversion of the trend by actually following the instructions in the audio, gaining over 615,000 likes in one day (shown below, right). As of August 8th, there have been over 3,400 videos with the sound posted to TikTok.[2]
