About
How The Email Finds Me refers to a series of tweets during the coronavirus pandemic which parody the typical email greeting "I hope this email finds you well" by posting a humorous photo representing the poor mental and physical state of the poster.
Origin
The earliest iterations of the meme can be traced to the early days of coronavirus-related quarantines. On April 14th, 2020, Twitter user @wintersp00ky[1] posted a picture of Shizuku Tsukishima from Whisper of the Heart to represent "how the email found me," but the post gained minimal engagement (shown below).
Spread
The format began growing more popular in late August of 2020. The trend started growing more popular following an August 26th, 2020 tweet by @WhatsUrIG[2] that gained over 22,000 retweets and 82,000 likes (shown below, left). On August 27th, user @wallysfax[3] posted an example that gained over 37,000 retweets and 188,000 likes (shown below, right).
The meme continued to see spread over the following week. On August 28th, it was covered by Design Taxi.[4] Other popular examples include posts by @_joyedoe,[5] who gained over 15,000 retweets and 69,000 likes (shown below, left), and @therealwavybaby[6] who gained over 420 retweets and 1,200 likes (shown below, right).
