About

How Dare You Wear Such an Offensive Shirt to School refers to an edited image macro series based on a political cartoon by Tom Stiglich. In the comic, a teacher reprimands a student for wearing an offensive Make America Great Again t-shirt, while praising another student for wearing a shirt that depicts the image of Marxist revolutionary Che Guevara. While supporters of President Donald Trump praised the original comic, others mocked it the comic's sincerity, finding the situation laughable.

Origin

On September 5th, 2017, cartoonist Tom Stiglich[1] published the cartoon "Teacher Kicks Out Students for MAGA Shirt," which was based on a then-recent news item reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution[2] (shown below). In the comic, the teacher says the boy in the MAGA shirt, "How dare you wear such an offensive shirt to school, why can't you be more like Billy?"

Later that month, Tumblr [4] user imgayjokes edited the Che shirt to read "I'm gay." The post received more than 1,400 notes in less than two years (shown below, left).
