#HouseOfWorth is a hashtag referring to a Twitter meme that lists six fictional 19th-century characters with their quarantine-coping traits. The hashtag and the individual names of the characters began trending on Twitter in April 2020 during the coronavirus outbreak.

Origin

On April 20th, 2020, Twitter user @NataniaBarron[2] posted an image of six characters with traits listed below captioned, "I made this meme today (inspired by @LaurenScribe) and thought I'd share: ladies of the House of Worth in Quarantine. I'm Clarissa" (shown below). The tweet gained over 1,600 likes and 340 retweets in four days.

Spread

On April 23rd, 2020, Twitter users began to respond to @NataniaBarron's tweet with the characters they identify with. Twitter user @MaryEstherJudy[3] replied "100% Imogen…except the names on my dance card are NOT made up. They are the names of the cats" (shown below, left). The reply received over 60 likes in a day. That same day, Twitter user @SalCole75[4] reposted the image and said, "Little bit Imogen… little bit Fannie. Back to work is going to be a shock! #HouseofWorth" (shown below, right). The tweet garnered over 2,400 likes and 430 retweets in a day.

According to StayHipp[1], "#HouseOfWorth, as well as the names of popular House of Worth characters, began trending on April 23 as users tweeted the lady they identified with the most." That day, Twitter user @LLCate[5] reposted just an image of Clarissa with the caption, "Fully team Clarissa – so much dread. #Clarissa #HouseofWorth" (shown below).
