About

Hot Cheetos Turkey is a recipe for a cooked turkey coated in crushed "hot puffed cheese sticks," more commonly associated with the Cheetos brand product Flamin' Hot Cheetos. The dish has been criticized and debated online.

Origin

On November 2017, Reynolds Kitchens[1] posted a recipe for "Hot Turkey in an Oven Bag." The recipe required coating the turkey with "hot puffed cheese sticks." On November 17th, ABC[2] reported on the recipe (shown below).

The following year, on November 19th, 2018, ABC re-shared the recipe on Twitter. [3] The tweet received more than 2,900 retweets, 6,1000 likes and 2,000 comments in two days.

Spread

Many online criticized the dish. On November 19th, writer Jemele Hill retweeted[4] the recipe and commented, "The devil is REAL." The tweet received more than 2,100 retweets and 10,000 likes in two days (shown below, left). Throughout the day, more people joked about the dish, describing it as unappetizing (examples below, center and right).

Several media outlets covered the debate, including USA Today,[5] BuzzFeed, [6] The Daily Dot [7] and more.
