About

The Hospitalized After Attempting Dangerous TikTok Trend Scrobbling Copypasta is a copypasta meme using the phrasal template, "A 15-year-old boy has been hospitalized for doing the dangerous TikTok trend X," with "X" being the name of a fake TikTok trend referencing a fandom or specific, harmless practice that sounds like it could be a TikTok trend. The copypasta, which is a parody of news headlines about dangerous TikTok trends like the blackout challenge, was popularized on X / Twitter in early September 2024.

Origin

On September 2nd, 2024, the @Dexerto X[1] page posted, "A 12-year-old boy has been hospitalized attempting the dangerous TikTok trend, Chroming," garnering over 10,000 likes in two days.

Later that day, X[2] user @The_Pequod_ posted an image of the Last FM logo next to the TikTok logo, writing, "A 15-year-old boy has been hospitalized after attempting the dangerous TikTok trend, Scrobbling," garnering over 25,000 likes in two days.

"Scrobbling" is a reference to how Last FM recommends music to its users. The post is meant to parody the prior Dexerto post and similar posts about allegedly dangerous TikTok trends that occasionally appear in the news.

Spread

The copypasta gained viral spread across X over the following days. On September 3rd, 2024, X[3] user @numetal_moment posted a version referencing nu-metal artist Fred Durst, garnering over 9,300 likes in a day. On the same day, X[4] user @BananaFarmBTD posted a version referencing Bloons Tower Defense, garnering over 2,300 likes in a day.

On September 4th, 2024, X[5] user @fallenchungus posted a version of the meme referencing his "Bro Visited His Friend" meme, garnering over 4,600 likes in under a day.
