About

Hood Alt TikTok is a community on TikTok collected largely under the hashtag #hoodalt. The community is a popular branch of Alt TikTok. Hood Alt TikTok videos typically feature a vintage camera filter and coordinated dances set to a variety of alternative hip-hop/pop songs. The most commonly used song is, "I'd Rather Sleep" by Kero Kero Bonito,[1] more specifically a clipping from the song featuring the lyrics, "now I know what's real what's fake."

Origin

On July 14th, 2020, TikToker and musician grizz.cll[2] uploaded a video of himself and a friend dancing to the song "I'd Rather Sleep." The next day, TikToker palmparadisee,[3] a friend of grizz.cll, uploaded a video using the same sound, with the on-screen caption, "you've now entered hood alt TikTok" (shown below, right). This video gained over 950 thousand views in the same span of time.
