Origin

The Honda Accord is a series of automobiles first manufactured by the Japanese car company Honda in 1976. Since 1989, the Accord has been one of the best-selling cars in the U.S. after it was first introduced to American consumers in 1982. As of 2018, the Accord is currently on its tenth generation and is sold in numerous countries around the world.[6]

While the exact first use of an Accord in memes is unknown, the car model began appearing online in memes around the early 2010s. One of the first memes to reference the Honda Accord came from a post on February 7th, 2011, that uses a 60's Spider-Man meme featuring Spider-Man in a car talking about how great his Honda Accord's gas mileage is, which was posted to the website sharenator (seen below).[2]

Another earlier example comes from an anonymous Imgur[1] user who uploaded part of a Honda Accord ad before adding Jesus and turning it into a biblical quote meme on February 14th, 2013 (shown below).

Spread

The Honda Accord continued to have memes evolve over the next decade, with it appearing as an object photoshopped into memes, with references made to it for both its longevity and the people who were associated with driving them often. For example, on April 17th, 2020, a now-deleted Redditor[3] submitted a meme to the subreddit /r/BlackPeopleTwitter that joked at how the COVID-19 pandemic was going to last years, using a Honda Accord as the punchline (shown below).

On February 5th, 2020, a Redditor posted an image of a Honda Accord with an obscene bumper sticker[4] to the subreddit /r/Trashy, which started a widespread conversation about the car's regular drivers and how common the occurrence appears to be (shown below).

On November 5th, 2021, an Elden Ring meme was made using a Honda Accord that references the character Milena who tells the player that she "offers them an accord" and subsequently uploaded to Reddit from the Redditor[5] HalftoneTony (shown below).
