About
Homer Staring At Moe refers to an exploitable image macro that comes from the 1994 season five finale of The Simpsons, titled "Secrets of a Successful Marriage," that depicts the character Moe looking over his shoulder in the first panel with Homer staring down ominously in the lower panel. The meme is used both as an object-labeling format and in various Photoshop edits.
Origin
In the episode "Secrets of a Successful Marriage," which aired on May 19th, 1994,[1] Homer and Marge have a falling out, and the next day Moe arrives and tells Marge he has feelings for her. While sitting on the couch waiting for her to return to the room, Homer shows up, looking grizzled, and stares Moe down out of suspicion. This intense stare between the two was first used as a meme on the Argentinian social media site Taringa, uploaded by Joni_elgreso[2] on April 15th, 2017, (shown below).
Spread
The meme initially stayed on Taringa before it spread to other platforms in the following years. For example, on June 26th, 2019, the format spread to Reddit via a post by Redditor[3] PadlingtonYT in the /r/memes subreddit, gaining 1,800 likes in three years (shown below)
A newer, redrawn and higher-quality version of the meme template was then used for subsequent memes in mid-2019, such as the one posted to the subreddit /r/diabetes on July 19th, 2019, by Redditor[4] zee-germans-are-here, earning 380 likes in three years (shown below).
