Homer Sharingan or Homer Uchiha refers to a series of memes, including video edits, based on an image of Homer Simpson with Sharingan eyes, meaning red eyes with black symbols that appear in Naruto when characters use their Sharingan abilities. The artwork was originally posted online as early as 2015 by an unknown artist, becoming the subject of memes over the following years. In November 2024, the artwork became the subject of edits on TikTok.
Origin
It is unclear who the artist is behind the "Homer Sharingan" art. A search with Tineye[1] suggests the art originates from a 2015 post to explorelol, however, the page is unarchived. The earliest known reuploads of the image were posted to Pinterest[2] on January 3rd, 2022 and Imgur[3] on June 4th of that same year. The former uploaded features the caption "HOLA" at the bottom, with the latter being blank.
Spread
On November 8th, 2024, TikToker[4] @xssume posted a tweening animation using the Homer sharingan video captioned "this pic is so cold 😭" garnering over 1.1 million views in three days.
The post inspired further edits and memes using the animation and image. On November 9th, TikToker[5] @vickeditz posted a meme using both the Homer sharingan image and a Peter Griffin sharingan edit, garnering over 984,000 views in two days. On November 10th, TikToker[6] @lizzy_edit10k posted an edit that gained over 778,000 views in a day.
On November 11th, X[7] user @KING_KONG_TAY posted a video of the Homer Sharingan image drawn on a whiteboard, writing, "This shit frying me bru," garnering over 18,000 likes in two days. On November 12th, X[8] user @Fat_A--_F-- posted a meme using the face that gained over 13,000 likes in a day.
