Spread

In the following years, the image inspired parodies on Tumblr, with users recaptioning it and replacing the images, often with various popular characters from different franchises and media.

For example, prior to October 23rd, 2014, Tumblr[2] user Rarekuma posted a version of the meme featuring Kirby character King Dedede. The post (shown below) garnered over 6,100 likes and reblogs in 10 years.

The format maintained a presence on Tumblr through the 2010s, eventually spreading to other sites such as X / Twitter and iFunny.

For example, on June 12th, 2020, iFunny[3] user Lain posted a video version of the meme featuring Touhou character Kyouko Kasodani. The post (shown below) received over 1,600 smiles on the platform in five years.

Alone on a Friday Night? God, You're Pathetic

Alone on a Friday Night? God, You’re Pathetic is a quote said by Sonic the Hedgehog in an edit of a panel from the ninth issue of Archie Comics’ eponymous comic book series. Online, the popularity of the exploitable image has led to the creation of many variations in which the smug-looking Sonic and his quote are replaced with another fictional character asking a different question that ends with the snide expression “God, you’re pathetic.”
