Hold The Fuck Up is an image macro series depicting various characters with shrunken heads holding up one index finger along with the caption "hold the fuck up," bearing similarities to the memes fgsfds and Listen Here You Little Shit.

Origin

On December 17th, 2013, Valve's video creation program Source Filmmaker added a new feature that allowed for scaling of individual parts of a 3D model. In the patch notes, Valve included a comment about how they could "already picture Meet The Heavy remakes with a tiny-headed Heavy."^[1] YouTuber archivemind was the first to create a small Heavy Weapons Guy head and posted the video on Youtube the very same day, which has accumulated over 200,000. At the 0:46 mark of the video, Heavy holds up his index finger in a precursor to the original "hold the fuck up" image.

Shortly after, an image of the shrunken-headed Heavy holding up his index finger and saying "hold the fuck up" became popular and has circulated across the Internet. One of the earliest versions was posted to Funnyjunk^[2] on December 5th, 2015.

Spread

On January 12th, 2016, shortly after the image first appeared online with the caption, an HD version was posted to Reddit, gaining over 2,200 points.^[3] Since the original Heavy Weapons Guy version of the image debuted, versions of the "hold the fuck up" image were made using other characters from various media, mimicking the original pose and often shrinking the character's head. Notable examples include Reinhardt from Overwatch (shown below, left) and Jorge-052 from Halo Reach (shown below, right).
