Hip Hop Harry's Dance Circles refers to a segment of the 2006 children's television show Hip Hop Harry in which Harry and other cast members form a semi-circle and show off their dance moves one by one. The song, used in the segment, features the lyrics "go, go, go, go, go, go, go who's next" and inspired nostalgic posts, a TikTok dance challenge, and reaction clip on Twitter that was typically used in response to racist or negative people, resigning or failing.
Origin
On September 26th, 2006, The first episode of Hip Hop Harry aired and featured the dance circle segment. The full episode was uploaded to YouTube by Hip Hop Harry on May 21st, 2016 and gained over 268,450 views in four years (shown below).
In April 2020, TikToker Jahmoss, account since deleted) uploaded a sound clip of the song and on April 16th, TikToker @zaybtv uploaded the earliest available Hip Hop Harry dance TikTok video and gained 160 likes in two months (shown below).
Spread
On May 9th, 2020, TikToker @cntjust[1] posted the same video of himself dancing to the song using the green screen effect to both TikTok and Twitter. On Twitter, the video went viral and garnered over 763,000 views, 56,800 likes and 27,800 in a month (shown below).
The video caused "Hip Hop Harry" to trend on Twitter. On May 13th, Twitter user @yeonjunshoney[2] tweeted, "idk why hip hop harry is trending but my childhood just flashed before my eyes" (shown below). The tweet received 1,800 likes and 450 retweets in five days.
The sound clip of the song continued to be popular on TikTok. On May 16th, TikToker @theeblackbadger uploaded a video captioned, "When you learned a new dance move as a kid and you wanted to show yo whole FAMILY" which gained over 1.8 million likes in a month (shown below, left). On May 25th and after the song became used in many Skanky Leg dance videos on the platform. That day, TikToker @getlikedaphhh uploaded a dance video that received over 452,900 likes in three weeks (shown below, right).
On May 25th, Twitter user @KhadiDon[3] tweeted, "2020 canceling people left and right like 'WHO’S NEXT?! Go! Go! Go! Go! Go!'" (shown below, left). The tweet accumulated over 11,100 likes and 2,700 retweets in three weeks. That same day, Twitter user @nnekaylaa[4] posted the lyrics again paired with an image of Mike Wazowski dancing (shown below, right). The tweet gained over 33,100 likes and 11,400 retweets in three weeks. Mashable[6] and The Daily Dot[5] published articles on the trend.
